A heartfelt thank you to Dobbies for spreading Christmas cheer at Goldsmith!

2nd December 2024

We are delighted to share that Goldsmith Primary Academy has been gifted a beautiful real Christmas tree through the Dobbies Community Christmas Trees initiative, in partnership with Needlefresh. This incredible program provides schools and nurseries with stunning trees to help create festive memories and bring the joy of Christmas to life for children.

Dobbies’ Christmas trees are not only gorgeous but also sustainably grown in environmentally managed fields across Scotland. Each tree is lovingly planted, pruned, and harvested by hand, ensuring care for the surrounding wildlife and plants.

What’s more, every tree comes with a special tag and code, allowing us to track exactly where it was grown—adding a wonderful story to our festive centrepiece!

Our tree is now proudly displayed in our school canteen for the entire Goldsmith Family to enjoy. Thank you to Dobbies, Mrs Smith and Mrs Twells for bringing a little extra magic to this festive season.

Top Tips for caring for a real tree:

  1. Keep it hydrated: Cut a small slice off the trunk before placing it in water to ensure it absorbs moisture properly. Refill the water daily to keep it fresh!
  2. Choose the right spot: Place your tree away from heat sources like radiators or direct sunlight to prevent it from drying out.
  3. Check your stand: Use a stand that can hold water, and make sure your tree is stable.
  4. Avoid heavy decorations: Keep ornaments lightweight to protect the branches.
  5. Sweep up needles regularly: Falling needles are natural, but regular sweeping will keep your space tidy.

After Christmas Care:
Once the festive season has passed, it's important to dispose of your real tree responsibly:

  • Recycle your tree: Many local councils offer Christmas tree recycling services, where trees are chipped and turned into mulch or compost.
  • Drop it off: Some garden centres or recycling centres accept trees after Christmas, making it easy to ensure your tree is disposed of in an eco-friendly way.
  • Repurpose it: Consider reusing branches for outdoor decorations or to create natural habitats for wildlife.
