Children’s Mental Health Week 2025: Know Yourself, Grow Yourself!

30th January 2025

At Goldsmith Primary Academy, we are excited to take part in Children’s Mental Health Week, running from 3rd to 9th February 2025. This year’s theme, Know Yourself, Grow Yourself, encourages children and young people across the UK to explore self-awareness, understand their emotions, and reflect on what it means to truly know themselves.

In partnership with Here4You and supported by The Walt Disney Company, Children’s Mental Health Week 2025 is all about building resilience and emotional well-being through self-awareness. With the help of the characters from Pixar’s Inside Out and Inside Out 2, children are encouraged to explore how understanding their emotions and their identity can help them grow and face challenges.

Throughout the week, we will engage with a variety of activities and resources designed to inspire our students to embrace self-awareness. These activities will be supported by fun, interactive tools and will allow children to think about who they are, how they feel, and how they can use this knowledge to support their mental health and well-being.

Top Tips for Parents: Supporting Mental Health at Home

To complement what children will be learning during the week, here are some simple yet effective tips for parents to help support their child’s mental health and emotional well-being at home:

  1. Encourage Open Conversations
Take the time to talk with your child about how they are feeling. Ask open-ended questions like “How was your day?” or “What made you feel happy/sad today?” This will help them express their emotions and build self-awareness.

  2. Create a Safe Space
Let your child know it’s okay to express their feelings without judgment. A safe space where they can talk freely will make them feel supported and understood.

  3. Model Self-Awareness
Show your child how you manage your emotions and practice self-awareness. Share moments when you’ve felt a certain way and explain how you handled it. This models positive emotional regulation.

  4. Introduce Mindfulness Practices
Simple mindfulness exercises like deep breathing, focusing on the present moment, or even taking a mindful walk together can help children manage their emotions and develop resilience.

  5. Praise Effort, Not Just Success
Reinforce the value of effort and perseverance, not just the outcomes. Encourage your child to embrace challenges, learn from mistakes, and see setbacks as opportunities to grow.

  6. Use Creative Activities
Engage your child in creative activities like drawing, journaling, or playing imaginative games. These can be powerful outlets for self-expression and emotional exploration.

We hope these tips help your child thrive during Children’s Mental Health Week and beyond. By fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and encouraging open conversations, we can help them develop strong emotional resilience that will support their mental health for years to come.
