We are incredibly proud to announce that Goldsmith Primary Academy has been awarded the Platinum School Games Mark for the first time in our school’s history!
This is a significant milestone for Goldsmith and recognises our sustained commitment to providing high-quality opportunities for children to participate in PE, sport and physical activity.
The Platinum School Games Mark will recognise Goldsmith across the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 academic years.
The Platinum School Games Mark is not awarded every year. To become eligible, schools must demonstrate a consistent commitment to school sport by achieving the Gold School Games Mark for five consecutive years.
Goldsmith has achieved this sustained level of provision year after year, culminating in our first-ever Platinum award.
This means that our Platinum recognition represents five years of commitment, participation and opportunity for our children.
It reflects our belief that every child should have the opportunity to enjoy sport, develop their skills, represent their school and discover activities that inspire them to be active.
Our Walsall School Games Organisers recognised Goldsmith as an “exceptional example of how PE and sport can benefit the children and young people of a school.”
Their feedback highlighted the varied and appropriate opportunities provided to our children throughout the year and recognised that Goldsmith demonstrates, year after year, how much we value the School Games programme as part of our wider enrichment offer.
They particularly recognised the exceptional amount and variety of quality activities being offered year on year, demonstrating the importance placed on school sport at Goldsmith.
This recognition is particularly meaningful because the Platinum award is about more than simply the number of competitions we enter. It recognises the breadth, consistency and inclusivity of our sporting opportunities.
During the academic year, 190 different pupils represented Goldsmith at 42 sporting events, including competitive, friendly and festival events.
Importantly, this included 132 disadvantaged pupils and 42 pupils with SEND.
Our sporting programme gives children opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities, from cricket, ultimate frisbee and benchball to cross country, inclusion events and Robin Hood running.
For the third consecutive year, Goldsmith teams also represented Walsall at the Black Country Level 3 School Games Finals in sportshall athletics and inclusive bowling, competing against schools from across Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Dudley.
The Platinum award also recognises the extensive enrichment opportunities available to our children.
All children have taken part in whole-school sporting experiences including Winter Olympics challenges, Easter Orienteering, Chance to Shine cricket sessions, Sports Days and WAT a Run.
Our biannual Olympic Day provided another incredible experience, with Sam Reardon, a two-time Olympic relay medallist from Paris 2024, and Olympian and BMX World Champion Kelvin Batey joining us.
Children experienced activities including wheelchair basketball, scooting, fencing, frisbee, archery and orienteering, alongside a 70-foot inflatable obstacle course and crazy golf.
Children have also had opportunities to experience sport at the highest level through visits to the Birmingham International Tennis Tournament, Walsall FC and other sporting events, as well as taking part in the European 2026 Miles Challenge and Beat the Street Bloxwich alongside their families.
Our commitment to school sport extends beyond competitions and events.
We provided 20 free sporting clubs every week as part of our enrichment programme, with 222 different pupils attending an after-school sporting club during the academic year.
From football, gymnastics and dance to athletics, basketball, tennis, cricket and dodgeball, our aim is to ensure children have opportunities to find activities they enjoy and develop a lifelong love of being active.
Our first Platinum School Games Mark is the culmination of five consecutive years of Gold awards and reflects the commitment of our staff, pupils, families and sporting partners.
We are incredibly proud that our school has been recognised as an exceptional example of how PE and sport can benefit children and young people.
A huge well done to Mr Perrin and everyone who has contributed to our PE, sport and enrichment programme. Most importantly, well done to our children, whose enthusiasm, determination and willingness to get involved make our sporting provision so special.
From five years of Gold to our first Platinum — what an achievement for Goldsmith!
