At Goldsmith, we are artists...
At Goldsmith Primary Academy, we believe every child is an artist. Our bespoke Art and Design curriculum, built around the Kapow scheme, meets and exceeds the expectations of the National Curriculum by enabling pupils to explore ideas, experiment with materials, and understand the formal elements of art. Through engaging, skill-based lessons, pupils study a diverse range of artists, designers, and movements, developing cultural and historical awareness alongside creativity and self-expression. From EYFS, where art is explored through imaginative play and expressive provision, to KS1 and KS2, where lessons focus on progressive skill development, pupils learn to draw, paint, sculpt, and evaluate their work with growing confidence. Magic Moments and themed projects extend creativity beyond the classroom, while inclusive strategies such as scaffolding and accessibility tools ensure all children can participate fully.
Art at Goldsmith nurtures pupils’ imagination, individuality, and resilience, encouraging them to analyse and reflect on their own work and that of others using our ASPIRE values. Progress is documented through sketchbooks, photographs, and pupil voice, evidencing growth in skill, confidence, and artistic intent. Assessment for learning and targeted feedback support consistent progress across year groups, guided by the school’s Art Skills Progression document. By the time pupils leave Goldsmith, they are confident, imaginative artists who value creativity and self-expression, equipped with the technical skills, knowledge, and appreciation to continue their artistic journey beyond primary school.
