Physical Education

At Goldsmith, we are sportsmen and sportswomen...

At Goldsmith Primary Academy, we are sportsmen and sportswomen. Our PE, physical activity and school sport (PESSPA) curriculum inspires pupils to develop confidence, skill, resilience and teamwork, enabling them to lead healthy, active lives. We provide an inclusive, broad and balanced curriculum that encourages all pupils to participate and excel, whether enhancing existing skills, discovering new sports, or developing leadership qualities. Through GetSet4PE, we ensure structured progression across all phases, allowing every child to explore and master fundamental movement skills, sport-specific techniques and strategies for competition and cooperation. Our aim is to nurture a lifelong love of physical activity and wellbeing, underpinned by the belief that every child can achieve success in sport.

From EYFS to Year 6, pupils receive high-quality PE lessons each week, covering gymnastics, dance, athletics, invasion games, striking and fielding, net and wall games, and outdoor adventure activities. Lessons follow the STEP process (Space, Task, Equipment, People) to ensure accessibility and challenge for all. Pupils also enjoy extensive enrichment opportunities through lunchtime clubs, after-school sports and interschool competitions, supported by WAT Primary PE Specialists and coaches who raise the quality of teaching and participation.

School Games – Amber Valley School Sport Partnership CIOGoldsmith pupils take part in numerous school sports and competitive events, proudly representing the school in the School Games and other regional tournaments. In 2024–25, our teams achieved outstanding success, reaching the Black Country Finals, reflecting our culture of excellence, teamwork and perseverance.

Progress is assessed through core tasks, pupil reflection and teacher observation, with clear evidence of improvement in skill, control and understanding. By Year 6, pupils demonstrate resilience, teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship, meeting national swimming standards and taking pride in representing their school. At Goldsmith, PE is not just a subject — it is a foundation for physical health, mental wellbeing and character development.
