At Goldsmith, we are theologists and philosophers...
At Goldsmith Primary Academy, Religious Education plays a vital role in developing pupils’ personal, social and spiritual understanding. Through the Jigsaw RE programme, pupils explore religious and non-religious worldviews including Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, Humanism and Baháʼí, fostering empathy, curiosity and respect for the beliefs and values that shape our world. Our spiral curriculum ensures concepts are revisited and deepened year on year, encouraging children to connect beliefs, values and actions. The curriculum reflects our local community’s diversity and is enriched by our Inter-Faith Day, which immerses pupils in multiple world religions through experiential learning.
RE is taught weekly across all key stages, using enquiry-based learning where pupils question, discuss and reflect on key themes such as identity, morality and community. Lessons are practical and discussion-rich, supported by visual prompts and scaffolds to ensure inclusion and accessibility for all learners. Pupils use Jigsaw RE “I can” statements to track their own progress, with teachers assessing understanding through ongoing AfL and reflective dialogue. By the end of Year 6, pupils confidently articulate similarities and differences between faiths, show tolerance and open-mindedness, and demonstrate the ability to express thoughtful, respectful opinions about the worldviews that shape people’s lives.
