The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools in England to help improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. Evidence shows that children facing disadvantage may encounter extra challenges in reaching their potential and can, on average, perform less well than their peers.
At Goldsmith Primary Academy, this funding helps us to ensure that every child can Dream. Rise. ASPIRE. regardless of background or circumstance. We are committed to using our Pupil Premium funding effectively to narrow gaps, raise attainment, and provide every child with the opportunities they need to succeed both academically and personally.
Research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) shows that pupil premium spending is most effective when schools adopt a tiered approach, targeting spending across three key areas — with a particular focus on high-quality teaching. Read the Education Endowment Foundation’s (EEF) pupil premium guide for information about the tiered approach to spending.
1. Teaching
We invest in the highest quality teaching and professional development for all staff, ensuring every child benefits from excellent classroom practice. This includes:
Ongoing training and professional learning for teachers and support staff
Recruitment and retention of high-quality staff
Strong support for Early Career Teachers
2. Targeted Academic Support
Some pupils require additional support to meet their individual learning needs. This includes:
One-to-one and small-group tuition
High-quality interventions in reading, writing, and mathematics
Specialist support, such as speech and language therapy
3. Wider Approaches
We recognise that non-academic factors can significantly affect a child’s success in school. Therefore, we also invest in:
Pastoral and emotional wellbeing support, including counselling and mentoring
Attendance initiatives to ensure pupils are in school and ready to learn
Help with the cost of enrichment opportunities, including educational trips and visits

The Primary PE and Sport Premium is funding designed to help schools improve the quality of the PE, sport, and physical activity they offer. At Goldsmith Primary Academy, we use this funding to:
Increase engagement in physical activity and sport
Develop staff confidence and expertise in delivering high-quality PE lessons
Broaden the range of sports and activities available to pupils
Foster a lifelong love of movement and wellbeing
Our pupils benefit from a wide range of clubs, competitions, and active opportunities that promote physical fitness, teamwork, and resilience — helping them to develop healthy habits for life.
